How to Install Unavailable Space Ship Modules in Starfield
Note that you still need to follow the Space Ship class requirements for modules for this to work.
For Example: You can't install a class B module if you have a class A reactor, etc.
If you run into problems, check the "Flight Check" messages (lower right corner of the shipbuilder window).
Also, don't forget to register your ship to edit it.
Some modules will not be available until you reach a certain level.
Some modules require you to visit specific ship technicians to access the modules.
In this guide, we will change the Shield module from Class B "Starship Design (Rank 2)" to Class B, which requires "Starship Design (Rank 3)", which I don't have yet.
Look at the equipment list which module is supplied as the module you want to install. I want to install the "Osiris 2030-B Shield Generator" which requires Starship Design (Rank 3). Note that the "Starship Design (Rank 3)" requirement is not met.
Select any other module you can select (for which you meet the requirements), but place the camera/view on the spaceship so that the selected module is red (so that it obstructs the ship and does not connect to anything), Select module "E" on the PC, but do not attach/place the module on anything. Make sure you can still move the module freely.
On PC, use "W" or "S" to scroll through the different modules and find the module of your choice.
When you find the module you want, you can left-click to select it or snap it into place. You can also use "Z" on your PC to toggle between selected module installation configurations (port/starboard & forward/backward).
